Maya Documentation

This is the Maya documentation page, it's purpose is to give a full background on how the LEGO Ship was designed, from concepts to fully constructed mesh. Below is the creation process and on e of the first major steps in creating this LEGO vehicle.

Starting To Model

How I actually went about starting the modelling process was when my tutor gave me a set of LEGO pieces that he made, these assets were distributed to the class in a very basic form, the task was to make a "background asset for a video game " (So I decided to make one for the Racing Game Project - Eco Racer), such as a flying ship. By doing some previous research on all the different models that I can base this from, I chose a Licensed Star-wars vehicle to model from. This is the moodboard below:

Modular Building Bricks

Green Brick #1

This  Wing Piece was one of the first assets I made, this was created with only a cube and 1 cylinder which was duplicated 3 times, with a series of boolean uses (Union) I tied all verts and proceeded to make the basic shape by manipulaating and extruding faces.

Green Brick #2

This simple 2 Stud brick is the most common piece when it comes to Lego, all builds will have these in. This asset is a prefect example when it comes to modulation, it was also used to make other assets to save time. This was made with a cube,1 cylinder with multiple uses of the Multi-Cut tool for cleaning mesh

Modular design, this method/workflow of modelling can be identified by creating scalable and reusable 3D models, they have the ability to break down an asset or scene, in this case I'm creating the building blocks to contribute to a LEGO vehicle. These individual pieces possess the potential to be used repeatedly in order to fabricate things such as a vast majority of game assets. In this case, I used the design workflow to research different ways in which a LEGO Ship is created, and to evaluate and demonstrate how this technique is used within a professional workspace. In doing so I will assess my model and it's secondary assets and compare them to a licensed/professional model. Here are the individual pieces below:
